IAMAT is created from the Research Institutes in Mathematics of the Universities of Granada (IEMath-GR) and Seville ("Antonio de Castro Brzezicki", IMUS), by means of an agreement signed by the two universities. At the moment of the signature of this agreement, IEMath-GR and IMUS were the only University Research Institutes in Mathematics in the Andalusian region, and IMUS was the only University Research Institute in Mathematics recongnized by the Andalusian Government.
The IAMAT is initially structured in two venues: the Mathematics Institute of the University of Granada (IEMath-GR) and the University Institute of Mathematics Research of the University of Seville "Antonio de Castro Brzezicki" (IMUS).
