The Heidelberg Laureate Forum is a one-week event combining scientific, social and outreach activities.
The winners of the most prestigious awards in Mathematics and Computer Science, the Abel Prize, the Fields Medal (including the Nevanlinna Prize for contributions in “Mathematical Aspects of Information Science”), the ACM A.M. Turing Award and the ACM Prize in Computing are invited to participate in the Forum.
Each year the Scientific Committee of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation decides on a topical focus for the upcoming forum. This is done in close communication with the laureates.
Once the focus has been defined, applications from young scientists for participation in the forum are solicited. The first phase of the application process is primarily handled by the award granting organizations, supported by the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, Mathematisches Forschungszentrum Oberwolfach and by Schloss Dagstuhl – Leibniz Center for Informatics. The candidates proposed by these organizations will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Scientific Board, which will make the final decision.
The outreach activities are targeted both at the general public and at high school students in particular who will have a chance to participate in parts of the forum based on a competitive application scheme.
Most of the events related to the forum will be accessible worldwide via live streams and after the event as recordings in a media archive.
The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) annually organizes the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), which is a networking event for mathematicians and computer scientists from all over the world. The 5th Heidelberg Laureate Forum will take place from September 24 to 29, 2017. The HLF was initiated by the German foundation Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS), which promotes natural sciences, mathematics and computer science, and the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS). The KTS and the HITS were brought to fruition by physicist and co-founder of SAP, Klaus Tschira (1940 – 2015). The Forum is organized by the HLFF in cooperation with KTS and HITS as well as the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the International Mathematical Union (IMU), and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (DNVA).
In 2013, Klaus Tschira established the HLFF, a subsidiary of the German foundation Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS), with the goal of fostering scientific exchange and young researchers of mathematics and computer science. The HLFF hosts the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), an international and cross-generational networking event where 200 outstanding young researchers from mathematics and computer science interact with the recipients of most prestigious prizes in these disciplines: the Abel Prize, the ACM A.M. Turing Award, the ACM Prize in Computing, the Fields Medal and the Nevanlinna Prize. The 5th HLF will take place in September of this year.
The public should also benefit from and be inspired by the extensive accompanying programs of this international networking event.

May 20 until August 31, 2017 – The “Masters of Abstraction” photo exhibition shows portraits, taken by the renowned photographer Peter Badge, of the recipients of Abel Prize, the ACM A.M. Turing Award, the ACM Prize in Computing, the Fields Medal and the Nevanlinna Prize.
