We present an approach to estimate the box-counting (or fractal) dimension of global attractors based on a smoothing property for the derivative of a semigroup. It is also discussed strategies already presented in many other methods such as in works by Mallet-Paret, Mañé, Carvalho/Langa/Robinson, Málek/Ruzicka/Thäter and Zelik.
